Inkjet Printers
Inkjet printers are ideal for low to medium use. They can deliver impressive print quality, even from the most basic inkjet printer.
Flexible Printing Options
Inkjet printers are available from small photo printer size right up to much larger print formats such as A2. Most modern devices use a four colour print process, blending cyan, yellow, magenta and black to create a printed page. Print density ranges from 600 x 600 dots per inch (dpi) to 4,800 x 1,200 dpi.
Print speeds for inkjet printers tend to range from 8 pages per minute (ppm) to 20ppm for black and white (mono-chrome) printing and 2ppm to 12ppm for colour printing.
High Quality Photo Prints
Photo printers are becoming increasingly popular, especially as print quality increases. Photo printers are specialised inkjets as they are required to produce a colour combination found in digital images rather than as displayed in plain text.
Standard USB Connection
Most inkjet printers connect to the computer using a USB cable. Some printer manufacturers supply these cables and some don't so ensure you check. It is also important to check operating system compatibility.
Printer consumables can be an expensive part of running an inkjet printer as the frequency at which you replace the ink cartridges can vary significantly depending on what you're printing. Printing photographs or colourful images will use significantly more ink than just plain text. Printer manufacturers give figures for printer cartridge usage but these should only be used as a guide.
