Mobile Phone Headsets
Mobile phone headsets fall into two types, corded headsets and Bluetooth headsets. Either type allow users to be hands-free, particularly necessary when driving.
Highly Compatible Cheap Headsets
The advantage of a corded headset is that they fit a wide variety of modern mobile phones and offer a cheaper alternative to a number of wireless versions. Some modern corded headsets also offer noise cancelling technology.
Corded mobile phone headsets are available in a wide variety of wearing styles, including monaural, binaural, in the ear and over the ear. In light of modern mobile phones also being used as MP3 players, these headsets can also be used for listening to music.
Wireless Bluetooth Mobile Headsets
For those wishing to utilise wireless technology and eliminate the wires, Bluetooth headsets are fast becoming the norm for use with Bluetooth mobile phones. The main advantage of Bluetooth headsets over corded headsets is the higher level of security level. This is achieved with the Bluetooth headsets through its 'pairing' feature.
To be able to use a Bluetooth headset, it must first be paired with a Bluetooth enabled mobile phone. In theory, all Bluetooth headsets can support all Bluetooth enabled mobile phones. As such, bluetooth headsets have an increased compatibility over corded headsets.
Whilst we don't advise using a mobile phone whilst driving, using a Bluetooth headset with your mobile phone is allowed at present (Jan 2008).
