Wireless Headset Solution To Work Balance Issues
Discussion of the growing demands of modern working life inevitably focuses on the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance. But surely we should begin in the workplace itself and ensure we can minimise the stress and anxiety that managing workloads brings? Technological advances have turned us from uni-taskers to multi-taskers. So how can we reduce the stress that juggling all those balls can bring?
Break Free From Stress
What many of us desire is freedom. The independent KRC Research found that half of office workers aged between 20-30 feel they are chained to their desk. The research, commissioned by headset manufacturer Plantronics, also found that 80% of the 750 workers interviewed felt that the modern office demands a greater ability to multi-task than five years previously. The same number also said that greater freedom to move around the office and in a way suited to their preferred working style would improve both their health and productivity. The message is that they want to free the chains and in doing so do their jobs more efficiently
Cutting The Cord
One way they can do this is to cut the cord, the phone cord that acts as that desk chain. Wireless headsets give freedom to roam. For example one of the most popular wireless headsets, the Plantronics CS60, enables users to use their phones when they’re up to 100 metres from their desk, although 50m is a more typical range given modern office layouts.
It’s not just that being wireless eliminates the literal cord to a deskphone, but the need for, or sole dependence on, a desk phone. More sophisticated sets which exploit Bluetooth technology allow connection not just to a telephone but also to a PC, PDA or mobile phone. This gives not just much greater geographic freedom but easier access to tools which may be needed to maximise the productiveness of calls.
Break Free
The KRC research also found office workers looking to technological advances and office equipment to help them combat workplace stress, ill-health and long hours. Wireless headsets are one tool that fit that bill by allowing staff to break free from their desks and more effectively multi-task. Staff are also acquainted with and desire wireless technology. After all, cords, whether attached to a phone or covering a geography teacher’s legs, are not the thing to be seen wearing these days!
