Ericsson Unveils SIP Phones
Ericsson has unveiled a new range of SIP phones which allow users to exploit the low cost IP telephony revolution and still enjoy the features they associate with traditional systems. The Ericsson Dialog 1400 range spans from a basic business model to an impressively feature-laden unit at the top end. For more information on this technology, see our article on SIP Telephony.
Form and function
Designed for use with Ericsson’s Enterprise Multimedia server which enables maximum functionality, the Dialog 1400 range of telephones will nonetheless connect to traditional PABXs. Each of the four models offers a navigation button, hands-free operation, programmable ringer volume and tone character, integrated headset port and personal phone book. Range opener, the Dialog 1401 offers six programmable function keys against the twelve and four soft key combination offered by the Dialog 1402, Dialog 1403 and Dialog 1404 units.
Making a display
Differences in displays are more marked. The Dialog 1401 offers two lines of 16 characters with the Dialog 1402 upgrading to a semi-graphical adjustable two line 24 character treatment and the Dialog 1403 moving into graphical territory with a 128 x 64 backlit display. But it is the top end Dialog 1404 which pulls out the stops with a backlit high definition 240 x 128 grayscale screen. It also boasts a large LED which flags up incoming calls.
Serving All
As previously stated, for maximum functionality the Dialog phones should be harnessed to Ericsson’s Enterprise Media Server, an impressive piece of technology which highlights the growing desire for convergence technologies - voice, data and images can all be handled and accessed from a variety of devices. A flexible, future-proofed, customisable and easily adaptable IP PABX it comes with an extensive integral application suite which includes voice, fax, e-mail, call recording and an attendant soft client.
